Navel Piercing Jewelry

The Different Kinds of Navel Piercing Jewelry

The current Navel Piercing craze began back in 1993 when Alicia Silverstone appeared with her navel pierced, jewelry exposed, in an Aerosmith Music Video on the MTV Television Network. Remarkably, Navel Piercing had not been part of the American fashion landscape before then.

Pierced body parts in the United States were not a completely novel concept prior to 1993. Pierced eyelids … pierced tongues … pierced ears … and pierced lips had become fashion mainstays in the hard rock and hippie communities all across America.

Navel Piercing JewelryBut it was the Aerosmith Music Video in 1993 that sparked the craze which exists today. Navel Piercings are extremely popular with young females, many older females, as well. And, over time, the types and styles of jewelry that young women put in their pierced navels has become much more stylish and fashionable than it was when this fashion fad began nearly twenty years ago.

Today, the most common types of jewelry used to adorn pierced navels are ring or bar designs, often coupled with a “barbell.” In fact, walk into any jewelry store at your local Mall or in town and you’ll find an interesting and attractive variety of “barbell jewelry” – simple curved barbells … barbells with dangling pendants … and many more “looks,” both simple and intricate. You’ll also find some very good-looking “captive bead rings,” a style favored by many young women.

Obviously, Navel Piercing Jewelry has carved out an important niche for itself in the costume jewelry or modest-priced jewelry marketplace. Current jewelry designs are in gold … in silver … and in several other precious metals, too. But, Navel Piercing Jewelry is, for the most part, affordable and budget-friendly. That may be for a number of reasons. For one: it is still a niche jewelry item, with a somewhat limited market … just females willing to self-mutilate in order to make a fashion statement. Secondly, the primary market is made up of young girls whose budgets for this kind of product are generally somewhat limited.

If jewelry retailers were to suddenly increase prices for Navel Piercing Jewelry, they might force the market for this product to collapse. That said, not all Navel Piercing Jewelry has to be low-cost; some pieces tend to be a bit expensive, but there are consumers who have the financial resources to “step up and buy.”

High cost Navel Piercing Jewelry is still “not the norm” in this limited marketplace. Yet, that may change as consumer demand for better, nicer, more attractive Navel Piercing Jewelry increases. As is always the case for this business and for all other businesses, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers will always find a way to find, isolate and meet consumer demand.

And if that demand currently seeks better, more expensive and higher quality Navel Piercing Jewelry, it is just a matter of time before these new and improved products show up in jewelry store showcases.

It will be interesting to see just what the higher cost Navel Piercing Jewelry looks like … what it will cost … and, of course, how it will sell.
